4 Tips to Land your Dream Job in IT
IT is one of the fastest growing fields, so it is a smart bet you will find a job if you specialize in that profession. Below are some tips on how to perfect your approach to land a great job in IT.
#1 - Maintain your Social Network
Create a social profile on a popular website like LinkedIn to keep in contact with previous coworkers. They can endorse you for specific skills, which will boost your profile. Many companies have pages on these sites, so it is easy for them to find you once you follow or like their page.
#2 - Write a Killer Resume
In your objective, state your purpose clearly, but quickly. Don’t get too wordy because no one wants to read a novel before they get to your experience. Sum up your qualifications, and make sure your experience section is stacked with skills. Including your certifications is a must because companies are looking for people with a mix of skill sets. Telling them up front what you have and which others you are pursuing lets them know if you will be a fit.
#3 - Be Prepared for the Interview
Companies have different hiring processes, but usually in the first interview you will be asked a few technical questions. Make sure you answer confidently and don’t over step your boundaries. Interviewers don’t want to hire someone who is unsure of how to perform a basic command. Also, appeal to them in a friendly manner. Personality can be overlooked part of IT, but being able to build rapport with your clients is imperative.
#4 - Know your Salary Range
Companies will usually look the other way if you are asking for too high of a salary with too few qualifications for a certain position. Read up on the company and see what the overall salary is for the position you are applying for. It is also beneficial to see other companies and compare your experience with the average rate for your city. Keep in mind any added bonuses or benefits packages you may receive instead of thinking about the salary alone.
